On May 21, 20 performers turn the Arzenál club into a shared space of sound and movement.

For the latest chapter of Márk Bartha’s Ensemble in Limbo project, Emese Cuhorka has been invited as a co-creator to explore, together with 10 musicians and 10 dancers, the interweaving of sound, movement, and space.

Ensemble in Limbo is an open musical formation by Márk Bartha – an experimental electroacoustic project centered on collective creation and presence, listening as an active experience, and the relationship between music and acoustic space. Each concert is a unique event, taking place in a different venue, with different performers.

Through a spectralist approach, the project seeks a distinct sonic quality in which acoustic resonance, electronics, and just intonation melt into one immersive experience. The concerts operate on the boundary between traditional performance and installation-like, performative events, where the venue is not merely a backdrop but an active participant – leading to a shared perceptual experience in which performers and audience alike may become participants in the same floating field of perception.

Ensemble in Limbo builds on the legacy of Pauline Oliveros, Terry Riley, La Monte Young, and C. Christer Hennix, while extending it through contemporary research into ritual, mourning, and shared processes of memory and transformation.
