A monthly community free school in Budapest’s 8th district

Common Treasure is a recurring event series rooted in the tangible sharing of knowledge, shaped by a commitment to accessible education, free artistic exploration, and cultural diversity. We learn from one another, we teach one another—creating a space where practicing our collective knowledge becomes an act of district-level, community solidarity.

Common Treasure is an open “self-education circle” where both theoretical and practical knowledge-sharing happens around freely chosen topics and activities—defined by participating partners and collaborating community members. Each month’s session features contributors invited through an open call or direct outreach, often from the local neighborhood or nearby communities.

Every month centers on a new topic, where guest speakers and participants exchange knowledge and raise questions. The program embraces a broad spectrum of themes—from music style showcases by artists of various nationalities, to women’s collective self-defense training, learning recipes, film recommendations, sustainable household and permaculture know-how, dancing together, understanding the hormonal cycle, and hands-on re- and upcycling workshops.

APRIL’S THEME: EARTH

Are we caring for the Earth the way it truly deserves?

What can we do – individually and as a community – to help ensure that the planet we all call home, with its ecosystems, climate, flora and fauna, its living and non-living elements, its ancestors and its future generations, can thrive in peace, unity, and health?
Recycling? Composting? Balcony gardening? Community gardens? Alternative transportation? Cooperative housing? Ecological footprint? Zero waste?

Let’s search for solutions together – and turn thoughts into action.

More details coming soon!

What we do know is that we won’t be staying inside all evening: we’ll head over to the nearby Kőris Community Garden to explore the initiative and immediately apply what we’ve learned – right there on the ground.

More about the series:

Common Treasure is an open “self-education circle” where, each month, participants and guest speakers exchange knowledge and questions around a new topic. The program welcomes a rich variety of formats—learning songs and dances together, women’s self-defense trainings, recipe sharing, film recommendations, sustainable household or permaculture know-how, insights into hormonal cycles, or hands-on re- and upcycling workshops.

Is there something you love doing or something you’re good at that you’d be happy to share? Become one of our contributors—after all, a neighbor might be looking for exactly what you bring.

We meet every last Friday of the month, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at STEREO Workshop.

The program is supported by the Municipality of Józsefváros, District VIII of Budapest.
