A mixed, Romanian-Hungarian theatre company is staging a performance about “The Wonders of Transylvania” with money from an EU grant. A director is invited from Budapest to help with the production, but the initially promising work runs into a series of obstacles. Telling the story of shared history and cultural values turns out to be more difficult than the team had expected, with politics, disease and acts of God forming a never ending chain of bad luck to which they need to adapt, not only the performance, but also their own opinions.
The Wonders of Transylvania is an interdisciplinary mockumentary about a community burdened by intergenerational traumas and tensions, about the possibilities of coexistence and mutual reconciliation, and about parallel narratives.
A co-production of Reactor de creație și experiment and Váróterem Projekt in partnership with STEREO AKT.
The event is part of the Fágáș project. Multicultural perspectives – the consolidation of cultural entrepreneurship in Cluj-Napoca in the Romanian-Hungarian interethnic context. Program financed by the SEE Grants 2014-2021 within the RO-CULTURE Program.
